Many of us in the UK are unhappy with our smile. With advances in modern dentistry, it's no longer just a case of filling and taking out teeth. Cosmetic dentistry, or ‘aesthetic dentistry', is used as a means of improving the appearance of teeth and your smile.
Improve your smile at Brookfield Dental.
Fillings are one of the most basic methods of restoring teeth. They do exactly what their name suggests – they fill a hole in the tooth that has been caused by decay.
In the past, fillings were always made out of either gold or a silver-coloured alloy called amalgam. Both of these materials are extremely durable and in some circumstances, they are still the best choice available. But they both have one disadvantage – they do not match the natural teeth in appearance.
At Brookfield Dental, we also offer composite (white) fillings, made from tooth-coloured materials. They look extremely natural and can enhance your smile.
Teeth can easily become discoloured by tea, coffee, red wine or other foods and drinks with strong colourings.
Teeth whitening is a simple procedure that can effectively lighten the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surfaces. The whitening effects can last up to three years. At Brookfield Dental, we offer teeth whitening using the safe and easy to use Boutique whitening or Enlighten® home whitening kits.
Boost your confidence with a brighter smile.
Teeth whitening can usually be completed within three to four weeks.
If you are interested in whitening your teeth, the first step it to book an appointment with your dentist to assess your suitability for teeth whitening and ask what you would like to achieve.
If you decide to proceed, at the next appointment, we will take impressions of your mouth and make whitening trays especially to fit your teeth.
Once we have received your teeth whitening trays, we will ask you to come back to the practice so we can check your trays fit and show you how they are used with the whitening gel. This will include how much gel you need to use, how long you need to use the gel for, how to store the gel and any side effects that you may experience.
Once you have completed the treatment, we will arrange a review appointment where we can assess your progress by comparing your new and old shades.
Your smile is often one of the first things that other people will notice about you. It’s crucial that you are happy with the first impression your smile makes, whether it’s at a job interview or on a first date.
A smile makeover involves one or more procedures to improve the aesthetics of your smile. It is a very individual process as it is dependent on what you want. A makeover could range from a simple improvement, such as the replacement of silver fillings with more discreet white ones and teeth whitening, to teeth being straightened or missing teeth replaced.
Your smile, the way you want It.
This is a simple, non-damaging and injection-free way to improve the aesthetics of your smile if you have small gaps, chips or worn teeth.
The treatment itself is straightforward and can often be done in just one appointment. It involves your dentist matching the colour of the composite resin with the rest of your teeth. This will ensure that your smile looks as natural as possible. The surface of the tooth will be roughened and coated with a bonding agent, on which the resin will adhere to. The resin is then placed onto the area required, followed by moulding and shaping into the correct position.
The finishing touches will consist of polishing to bring up the shine and shape to enhance your natural smile.
This depends on your expectations. Teeth whitening will not completely change the colour of your teeth but will make them a lighter shade. The benefits of teeth whitening could last for several years, however, this will vary from person-to-person. With some small maintenance, the effects can last longer. The effects of the treatment will be less likely to last as long if you are a smoker, or if you eat and drink products which can stain your teeth. Due to it’s effectiveness, short treatment time and cost, teeth whitening has proven to be an increasingly popular way for people to give their smile a makeover and has the benefit of being far less invasive or expensive than other cosmetic work such as veneers.
The entire process can usually be completed in around three or four weeks. The process begins with two or three visits to the dentist. At this visit , they will take impressions of your mouth for the whitening trays to be specifically made. The dental team will then start the treatment, talking you through the process, before you continue the treatment at home. This means regularly applying the whitening product over two to four weeks for a little as one hour or overnight depending upon the product.
At the most basic level, tooth whitening is a procedure which lightens the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surfaces. Bleaching with hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide is the most usual method of teeth whitening . Following instruction by your dentist, you will then apply the whitening product to your teeth, using a specially made tray which fits into your mouth like a mouthguard. As the bleaching agent is broken down, oxygen produced enters the tooth enamel and the tooth colour lightens.
Not at all. The gels are made up of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). When this breaks down it forms water (H2O) and oxygen (O2) making it harmless. It is the oxygen (O2) which helps brighten the teeth.
